Flexible Falcon

Lately I have forsaken most of my humble collection for the flexibility of a Falcon and 4 bowls. It has some advantages, espescially when trying new tobaccos as comparing like with like is easy. Similar bowl shapes make that a doddle. I like to clench and falcon bits are very hardy. I prefer the dental bit for that reason, although still blessed with most of my own teeth. I also like the fact that Mr Kenly Bugg used his engineering background to make a very sculptural classic. Who else loves these pipes ? Have I become a Codger smoking pouch tobacco in a Falcon ?

I think this was my very first pipe, perhaps I had a cob or grabow in the past but this is the first pipe that stuck. I love Falcons.

Cornish aren’t thee? If so, then definitely yes. Cornish Codgers like thee are much more Codgerly than Codgers like I. Natural Born Codgers, the Cornish!

love my falcons and yet they're my least favorite pipes. Actually I go through phases with them. Where I hardly touch them and then I smoke them once per day at least. Also love how little dottle you get from them. They do smoke cooler and the care is so easy. Unscrew and wipe the bottom of the briar bits and the dome. Switch the top and you can smoke again. Only problem really I've found is some tobaccos leave an extra strong stench in the dome but not a big deal.

Isooropyl alcohol cleans and sanitises the best.

Cheers Mate. My oldest Falcon is over 30. It has only had 3 new bowls and 2 new stems.

Easy to customise. One stem and a couple or 3 bowls and you are set.

They generally don't get the respect they deserve.

I have two Bantam bowls. A bulldog and a Tangier rustic. Big enough for a one hour smoke of something slow burning.

I wouldn’t. As someone who’s bought both, I’d strongly recommend you pay the extra & get a proper meer bowl. Difference is night & day.
Have a good look round the online tobacconist sites. Prices are a fair bit cheaper than those on eBay (or they used to be).

I have a bad case of FAD. Falcon Acquisition Disorder. I came by a Falcon Extra stem with a Dental bit. They are much easier if you habitually clench as I do. They are hard to find in a fancy finish like this so I bought it in a heart beat. It came with a "dry ring" and although I had never bothered with them before, I tried it. I was right not to bother and wont again. The smoke was so different , but not in a good way. It restricted the lively open draw that I like and the accumulated moisture seemed to produce steam and just made a wetter smoke. Just my 10¢ .

I'm a Peterson fan but I have many Falcon's in my collection, when I work on Guitars I use a dental Falcon, I don't have dentures, it just hangs between my teeth and is so light, Falcons are great for wet smokers, easy to clean and easy to change a bowl, when in my workshop I load a few bowls and just change them when I want to, my oldest must be over 50 years and still going strong.

I have had falcons for over 40 years and the Dental bit is much more comfortable. I still have most of my own teeth, but it just feels better.
