Does anyone know enough about the inner workings of SPC blends to tell me if their Bourbon Barrel Aged Plum Pudding is topped/cased with bourbon flavor, or if it's truly just carrying the scent of real bourbon? I cracked my first tin of this stuff yesterday and I find the whiskey scent to be quite overpowering. Literally sinus-clearing if you put your nose to it. Does it really acquire this much fragrance just from being aged in a bourbon barrel? Or are they soaking this blend in some whiskey-flavor juice? I'm skeptical.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I can tell you that the flavoring was way too strong for me right out of the tin. I took the block of wood out and let the tobacco sit in the tin until it was fairly dry, at which point the flavoring had dissipated to the point that it was an enjoyable smoke.

I have a high level of confidence that aging in used bourbon barrels, or with staves from such, would not impart the overwhelming degree of scent and flavor in that tobacco.

I cut it 50/50 with other English blends and that comes out about right.
