I've not had any problems with St James Flake, FVF, or Marlin Flake -- Dark Star OTOH seems to be comprised mostly of asbestos ...

This has been my experience too.
I've dried it, put it in an electric coffee grinder, cut it into very small cubes yada yada but the darn stuff just won't burn!
I finally gave up & traded away most of the tins I had. Still have a couple, though. Anyone care to make me an offer?

What's the RH were you live? And where would that be?

I believe that all tobaccos can be dried; just some are more difficult than others.
