For me Loose tobacco has always burnt to quick & hot whatever i do. certain Pies i have with huge thick bowls is ok, But the average pipe just gets to hot for me. Flake seems to burn so slow & even it's a complete new experience so pleasant. It took me 2 & half hours to smoke my last bowl of flake only lighting it up once more in that time.
I'm sure peeps will have different experience with loose tobacco. but i will always go for flake first.

Try as I might not to, I also tend to smoke too hot and find that a folded and stuffed flakes burns cooler and slower for me. And that naturally leads to a better tasting bowl.

One of the things I love about smokingpipes is their tobacco finder and being able to search for blends based on the cut. Show me flakes with Virginia and voila! There they are.

I don't know how you guys are able to finish full bowls with only a relight or 2. I literally relight every 2 minutes, especially with flake. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't bother me one bit if I have to relight 100 times. Just can't understand how some of you can keep it lit throughout the whole smoke

Watch for the gaps between my draws. I can put a pipe down, go make coffee and return to smoking without relighting. It's all about dry tobacco, loose packing, and a good starting light.
