I received a new Chacom Lumberman pipe for Christmas......while cleaning it prior to it's initial smoke, I noticed that the draw hole in the stem would barely pass a pipe cleaner - it almost felt like there was an obstruction or something like that. I had to really jam the pipe cleaner through in order to pass it. Any suggestions??

Someone posted a thread on this exact problem yesterday.

For some reason it appeared in the Pipe Talk: Italian Section (???)
Under the heading "Unknown Maker Meerschaum Wouldn't Smoke"

You could do worse than to follow his lead.

I did try smoking it, it wasn't terrible but felt like it could be better. I'm using the Long's regular pipe cleaners, which seem to be pretty thin. When I try to pass it through, it literally stops halfway through, it feels like the hole is partially blocked. Poor drilling maybe, dunno, can barely see through it.
I'll have to give these a try.

You can also try to run a piece of braided wire through a few times.

if the hang up is in the funnel area Vermont freehand sells a tool to fix that.
