Five Recent Restorations + Pipe Photography

I've picked up a bunch of pipes from local antique shops in the area. They were so beat up that I was able to get the seller down to 10$ per pipe. Here is the lot in their "ready to smoke" condition. The pictures are the result of playing around with a new table top studio lighting setup I built on the weekend.

Coal: me too! Sadly it was the nastiest of the restorations :-(
When I reamed back the thick cake I found that the previous owner had burned the bowl from the inside and there were pretty deep heat fissures throughout the bowl. I had to fill these cracks and fissures with my own special bowl repair mixture (made of briar dust, cigar ash, grounded activated charcoal, maple syrup and water). One layer per day, then 2 days drying time - for a total of four layers. Now the inside of the bowl is like new.

Beautiful work - they look like new. How much work did you do on the finish? I find restoring sandblasts, esp lightly stained ones to be tricky.

Terrific work as usual and your photography is also a real treat. I just tried to photograph a GBD with Perspex stem, on a white background. I may reshoot with some tobacco on the background, I think that might keep the clear stem from washing out.
