Got this pipe for five bucks the other day. Cleaned it out and smoked it. I was pleasantly surprised! It smokes super well and cool. Does anyone know anything about Something Sweet? I know it's not the greatest pipe, but couldn't help getting it for the price. Any thoughts on it??

That's a well spent five dollar bill, Smokey.
Shoot, I've had pipes I'd pay a fin to get the background you got for free from Philo and Mr. Ed.

Honestly, all of my pipes have been super cheap. I haven't paid more than $15 dollars for one. All but maybe two have smoked very well, or at least in my limited experience. I have found that, even if someone doesn't have a lot of money, one can still enjoy the hobby. I am a poor college student, and when I was thinking about getting into the hobby, I didn't want to invest too much "just in case." But now that my passion for the hobby has grown over the past year, I have decided to save up to get a good pipe at the Chicago Pipe Show this May. Does anyone know any artisans or brands that would be good for my first expensive, new pipe?? I appreciate the input as always.

If you want a quality pipe at cheap prices go with GBD estates, I think that they are the tops when it comes to estates, I've only paid about $40 for pipes that smoke amazingly well.

What a nifty little saddle stem straight rusticated apple shape pipe. Something Sweet indeed. It will be fun

to track this one down, information on its provenance and the history of its maker. Low price doesn't mean

shabby pipe. If you do a lot of "window shopping" and evaluate your pipes closely, you can get primo smokers,

and some excellent looking pipes, at truly modest prices. Nice when you can cut loose and buy something

special, but many of us get some of our best smoking out of pipes bought at moderate, and even very low,

prices. Congratulations.

Not really trying to resurrect this thread for discussion but just to add my own recent purchase of a Finsbury II. There is an outside forum post that indicated these pipes were Harcastle 2nds made in England, but other searches say it might be a Brebbia 2nd. At any rate, I find this pipe to be a very nice piece of briar and well engineered. I paid a bit more than the OP, six bucks instead of five. I wish his pictures still worked.
