With minimum skill, you can fashion a lanyard to hold the pipe when a big one strikes and your mind goes completely to setting the hook and then playing him in if need be.

I would probably hook a big one, get all excited, and the lit pipe would fall out of my mouth and down into my waders. Then things would get really exciting.
