Doesn't look like a typical European. Did Van Gogh travel?

Jay.
A few europeans didn't look that european then or now. And even back as far as these things can be traced some people ended up far away from home.
And then there are also people like me. I am 100 percent European but people often think I am not.
So not sure but more likely that a fisherman had traveled then Van Gogh (actually I think he stayed Europe his whole life).

Actually, when Vinnie was "away" in the asylum, he worked diligently on his craft by copying other's work. Researchers have identified a painting that they think he may have copied this from:

Doesn't, to me, look likely. I had the opportunity to see a number of Van Gogh works up close some 20 years ago. I'd liked his stuff since I was a kid, but oh my word, in the flesh it's much much more. The amount of paint, the way it's applied is astonishing - it makes every other artist seem niggardly and parsimonious bar, maybe, Jackson Pollock. But at no point does one think "too much", it's absolutely right.

True that was certainly a common thing not just with him.
I certainly see the resemblance between the two works. Though in the one above I can tell it's a neck beard and not some kind of fluffy undershirt or something.
Cool thanks, that's a pretty neat thing to see.
