Hi all,
Today my first Winslow pipe just arrived, its unsmoked pipe in perfect condition if I can say. Straight billiard with brushed finish and partial smooth at the rim. It come with silver band that looks a bit oxidized.
Chamber dia. 22mm, around 40mm depth, bowl dia. Around 45mm, over all length 130mm, 9mm filter. And it is E grade pipe.

Honestly I'm walk in the dark here, I'm not doing deep research before I made this purchase. All I do just read some history about Winslow pipe, about his pipe grading and that's it. I don't even know if it's really worth with money I spend (in term of product value), just doing a quick search about Winslow pipe price range and abrakadabra I hit the button.
I pay about $199 include shipping.
Do you think it's worth?
Or I was doing stupid spend here?
Please let me know what you think ?

Being one of Preben Holm's students shows in the quality of his work. I had one of his Crown 300 Dublins in my collection some time ago, but it's small size(1.83" chamber) and acrylic stem eventually found itself outside my collection.

@chasingembers is your crown 300 smoke great?
actually I'm not kind of full bowl smoker guy, even with medium size bowl I never pack it full. So with this new big chamber pipe my game is gonna change.
And is it true if I say many Danish style pipe artisan tend to make their pipe in bigger chamber than traditional english style?

It was a great pipe, but the chamber was too small to my liking. They are typically larger in chamber size to English pipes though Dunhill and Barling both produced magnums.

And many of dansih style seems to be thick wall, make the bowl bulkier.
My winslow is 73 gram, enough to make my jaw muscled
Very nice photos, Caktranaruci!
I have quite a few Danish pipes from various makers with not so thick walls. (When I started collecting pipes Danish pipes were just 'in vogue' and cheaper than the longed for British ones) I think you can't generalize.

Below is one of my Winslows E that I bought used the year before last for $215. In my opinion, Paul Winslow is one of the very good Danish pipe makers who still offers his pipes at a reasonable price/performance ratio. And, as Embers mentioned, he obviously has the same quality standards as his former teacher Preben Holm, who sadly died much too young.

Thanks a lot, Kottan ?
Yes pardon me for those kind lack of knowledge..but doesn't mean to generalize, I just tought since a lot of Danish maker tend to make freehand, the shape is become more personal expression, that I found many of them has unusual size, unusual shapes, come in big chamber or thick walled compared to the traditional ones. And ofcourse I also know not all freehand pipe has shape as I mention..all those aesthetic improvisation just a consequences of their freedom style.
And as a guy who just start loving freehand style, it's really make me see pipes in different way, far more than simple smoking device.

What a nice pipe!
I love the transition of smooth and rusticated part. Sometimes I thought some pipes is too beauty to smoked ?

Usually, yeah. Some are the same or smaller, but my own experiences with them (*&* preference) are all bigger than "standard" shapes.

Bill
Personally which one you like more Bill?
The traditional or the freehand?
In early time I jump into pipe smoking I stick with traditional shapes quite long, for me freehand style looks too 'alien', something from other space..until don't know how I found they caught my attention. It has rich value of aesthetic, yet simply not for everyone.
