I smoked cigars for the better part of 20 years and Nightcap tastes absolutely nothing like a cigar. Nor does a good cigar taste sharp or vinegary. Maybe an El Producto or Dutch Masters from the drugstore, but I never smoked those turds. A good cigar tastes like a cigar. Double maduros taste smooth with a rich aroma, on down to double claros which taste harsh and smell rank.
Haha! Sorry to trigger you, my friend!
If you'll reread my post, you'll see that I absolutely did not suggest Nightcap tasted anything like a cigar. Rather, I said it tasted what I had initially hoped a strong cigar might taste like.
It seems you're a bit offended on behalf of the cigars, and let me assure you--none was intended. Perhaps cigars don't taste vinegary to you--that's fine. I was looking for a close analogy. To say a cigar tastes like a cigar is not an analogy, but simply a tautology that doesn't help anyone. I have never smoked anything from a drugstore--only higher end cigars from my local tobacconist, and never the same one twice, so I did get run the gamut of what my local tobacconists offered. I don't claim to be a cigar expert, but tobacco certainly undergoes fermentation just like vinegar does. They didn't literally taste the same as vinegar, but that's the closest analogy I could find. I enjoyed more robust cigars--still do--but they were not what I expected.
I was merely stating that Nightcap had the deep, rich, smoky flavor that I had naively expected of a strong cigar.
I agree about the nicotine hit, kaboom. I initially thought I had a high nicotine tolerance, but I notice I always smoke after meals--not for any reason in particular except that it just seems like a nice, relaxing time to do so.

You're spot on with Nightcap having a "deep, rich, smoky flavor". If cigars had a flavor profile closer to that, I'd probably be a big fan.

I suppose in this day and age of political correctness there are people who could be offended on behalf of wads of rolled-up tobacco, but I'm not one of them ;) And I understand what you meant now. If I had expected brussels sprouts to taste like custard pie I would have been dismayed at the reality also.

Haha. No problem--I had never smoked anything before trying cigars a while back, and it was quite different from what I expected.
I find that I am actually terrible at anticipating tastes/smells based on tobacco reviews online. The flavor is always wildly different than what I expected based on descriptions. So it's not surprising that my own descriptions don't really line up with what others have experienced, given that I seem to have a weird set of olfactory sensors and taste buds!

Common occurrence. One man's ambrosia is often another man's "how do they smoke this crap?".

Luckily, I haven't yet smoked anything I didn't like! And I've been through a lot of the basics.
To the original poster: I'm curious; was Nightcap your first "English" / latakia blend?

It wasn't my first english/latakia blend, as I had previously had a local tobacconist blend and Frog Morton's Cellar as well. They may be more mellow than NC but I believe that still classify as such. I love FMC by the way. Phenomenal blend, and I just ordered a 100g tin as I've finished my 50g. :puffpipe:

Spectre is a cigar that pushes the envelope. In making this dark and oily masterpiece, Spectre has broken the mold by bringing a tobacco into the mix that you've probably never seen in a cigar before- Latakia.
The jet-black leaf from Cyprus is the result of hanging Turkish tobaccos in a barn and saturating the leaf with wood smoke. It's a full-bodied tobacco with a uniquely smoky aroma and flavor. Widely used in pipe tobacco, Latakia is a newcomer to cigars, but with a masterful hand involved, the result is unlike anything you've ever experienced.
Cigar guys will be intrigued by the added dimension that Latakia brings to the table, adding an almost barbecue note to the blend. Pipe enthusiasts who are already familiar with the fragrant black leaf will be amazed at how expertly it's balanced against the rich and robust mixture of cigar tobaccos. This will be a phenomenal change of pace for the pipe or cigar smoker who wants something wildly different.
