I went to the flea market yesterday since it was my one day off, and wanted to get out and walk around with the kids. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, however I always try to keep my eye out for some pipe stuff. Not even 10 mins walking the out door isles of tables I happen upon five pipes. I had to stop and take a closer look, 3 of them Sasieni 4 dots (one missing the dots, and one with a broken shank that has been glued back together), the last two are Grabows in decent shape. The women selling them comes up to me with somewhat of a sales pitch talking about how much they are worth. I smile at her, she has no idea I'm somewhat of a collector. I point out that the Grabows she has are the ones in better shape, then I show her the broken section of the long shank on the Sasieni, along with the chipped tenon on the other, and the missing dots on the last one. I then tell her the the stems are all oxidized and requiring restoring before they can be used again. I then spent a few minutes showing her pictures of pipes I've restored in the past. I left to go get some money and come back to go ahead and buy them.
While walking to the ATM I spy another fellow selling some table lighters, something I don't have and been wanting. I stop to take a look and found one I was interested in that seemed like it could still work. I head on to the ATM get my money and come back to the pipes first. I scored them for a total of 15 bucks, and then I picked up the lighter for another 5 bones. I came across a table of some Grabows and Kaywoodies, but didn't pick anything up for that table, I had put a limit of 20 on myself for the day.

walking around Flea Markets, "Antique & Collectible" shops and street fairs can yield some really good finds for cheap. You do have to watch out for overpriced and smoked beyond repair pipes though. I have a Savinelli Giubileo D'Oro Bulldog from the 1970s that I paid $3 bucks to acquire. I have been offered $300 for it but won't sell it.

Yeah, my days at the flea market are all about clapped out drug store pipes that the seller thinks are 'collectable' (read as unrealistically expensive)...
You did real good.

Jeep:
What a splendid job you did on those two primo English warhorses!
Joel Sasieni made his bones working for the House of Dunhill and many people think his product superior to the one dot people.
As to the Beattie, do not use it. Put it on eBay tomorrow. Your complete package is highly collectible. The box and instructions are wonderfully crisp and would sell for thirty bucks alone. The lighters, however, are miniature flame throwers and scare the living bejesus out of me. (They will torch a rim. I swear.)
If you want to play around with one, promise to sell yours - I know you paid less than ten bucks & you'll make a tidy profit - and I'll send you mine to fry a pipe heading for the dumpster. You just have to send it back. Even an unboxed Beattie will bring a twenty or thirty dollar bill on the Bay.
You really scored, pal.
