Just an update for you guys. I'm getting the hang of the sipping. Yesterday I could even pick out some of the flavor in my tobacco. I'm having a nice bowl of 1-Q and its cool as could be. Thanks again to everyone for your help.

Nothing new to say, so I'll just reiterate some good points:
1. Pick up a MM cob (or 5) for smoking outdoors. Smoking outdoors seems to cause tobacco to burn faster.
2. Be patient. The pipe is a wonderful way to relax. Sip slowly and enjoy.
3. Dry your tobacco a bit. Try something like Old Dog or Frog Morton or Bailey's Supreme.
4. Have a glass of water or tea nearby. Keeping your mouth hydrated helps avoid tongue burn.
Enjoy yourself, and welcome.
