The first snow of the season blanketed much of the Northeast today. I was fortunate to have finished some restoration work on a new-to-me Kriswill Bernadette, and decided that some Dunhill flake and a bit of Dad's Hat Rye would make for a nice evening out on the deck.
What did you do?

We had a dusting of sleet yesterday, on my windshield here in central N.C., then some big flakes this afternoon Saturday, and otherwise chilly by our standards and rainy. Nothing stuck because it's been warm and the ground melted what fell. When I went out to get the morning paper, i stepped gingerly, not knowing what had frozen on the blanket of oak leaves finally on the ground.

I also retreated to the garage, for some Corn Cob Pipe and a Button Nose, in a cob. There is enough snow to need to brush my car off, but not enough for a shovel.
I did see a Canadian goose standing on the pond yesterday.

Here
The mighty half inch of accumulation from Thursday night was but a memory by lunch Friday.
Today I opened up the house a bit for the two hours it was in the mid 60's and took the bike to do errands.
Tonight's low of 38 is the bottom end of the foreseeable future.

We got around 3", maybe a bit more. A cold snow, light and fluffy, but the roads were warm enough that there wasn't much accumulation, so no snowmobiles or ATV's. A very quiet day in the woods. The Kriswill smokes very nicely.

I won't even mention the weather we've had last week.
But I grew up in Illinois, so I can remember what 10 below with a wind (20 mph) chill factor felt like.

We had about 3" in western NC. A good day to set inside and smoke, and watch the Grand kids out the window.

Haha, yup. Winter came on a Thursday this year. Back in shorts and a t-shirt.

We had some snow before Thanksgiving, but it melted and hasn’t come back yet. The 200 acre chopped corn field next to us hasn’t pulled in the Canadian Geese yet, but that should start happening soon. Some people groan about it, but I love the winter and snow. It’s so festive this time of year. One year I visited family living in Hawaii around this time of year. It just didn’t feel the same with temps in the 80s, palm trees swaying, and the guy in the Santa suit with armpit stains from sweating.
Come on snow ! Start falling !

This is south west Transylvania, this morning. The forest is some 16 km north of an European Road, located near the Royal Residence at Savarsin. It snowed heavily yesterday, and a few of the fellows asked me out for a hunt. Carpathian boar is a common species around here, although we hardly found them today. The chase was not tip top, some 30 rifles lined in stand for a chase of 4 huntsmen and 6 dogs, among which 4 pups. We did shoot 3 pieces, but the herds were difficult to chase out from underneath the pine, which was located in rougher terrain.
We had a blast though, a bit of sun, running rivers and melting snow from tree branches made a story like scenery. We had a good pot of goulash, which is always nice after a full day in the cold :puffy:
