shikano53, looking at your pictures, I thought for a second that it was my and my neighbours house across the street from you, lol. We have a park across the street from us, so it is not our houses, but sure looks like it.

Here in South Carolina we don't see much snow, mostly ice, which I can do without. If it snows here in the morning we'll be cutting the grass by the afternoon. I grew up in Baltimore and sure do miss the snow, no matter how inconvenient it can be.

Let me tell you, I have had rain, snow, cold and windy weather conditions to last me a life time,I'd much rather prefer spending my time in South Tx or Az,this shitty constantly changing weather we have here on the shore starts getting on my nerves.

Chicagoland if hitting record highs. Mid 90's.
Why am I using the AC when the trees are changing color?

Finally getting a cold front to move through here in Colorado. Don't think the snow line will make it down to Denver this weekend. I've been snowed on in July and August in the mountains, so nothing surprises me anymore. The colder weather is the signal that hunting and ice fishing is on the way!

Our mountains had lost most of their snow. The clouds finally parted this evening and we saw this from the family room window. The grass and trees are still green down here, and the snow melted, but look at those mountains!

The mountain in the center of the pic is Ruby Dome, the highest peak in the Ruby Mountains of Nevada. It is 11,388' and we are at 5840' here at the house.

Very pretty, Ken. Reminds me of my four years along the Wasatch Front at Hill AFB. I thought I would stay there permanently after I separated active duty. It was so gorgeous, and much less populated 25 years ago. But, that third winter came along and gave this Deep South raised boy an old fashioned beat down. Nearly five months of continual snow cover, successive days of 20 and 30 below temps with the wind chill and long stretches of unbroken cloud cover caused by temperature inversions over the Salt Lake Basin. Man, I was brutalized! Your pictures are sure pretty, though and brought back some fond memories of my time out west.

The Wasatch is beautiful, but the population and polluted air make it a mess now. We spend a couple of days a month in Salt Lake City with our DAV son. It is nice NOT to live there. LOL...

Aquadoc, we're in Quakertown, about an hour north of center city Philadelphia. Albright College is one of my clients, so I'm out near Sinking Spring pretty frequently. I love Berks, too bad they are saddled with Reading, it drags down the entire county.
Hunter, ash does make good firewood. I prefer hickory, oak and locust for their BTU performance, but ash splits relatively easily and we have a lot of it!
Eastern Utility Pole also makes good firewood. Here's a fine specimen growing up at the street in front on my house:

What a beautiful picture. The 'sap' in utility pole can be rather noxious though.
Over the years, I have found that wood is the best stuff to burn in a wood stove. That is ANY kind of wood that is available. We have lived in Nevada for 22 years and have burned mostly cottonwood all this time. Some other stuff comes available, like aspen, but generally cottonwood. Free is good, available is best.

Yup. I do pass up Poplar when other wood is available, though. I'd rather put my time and muscle into processing trees with a higher heat value. Polar splits quickly, though and it's light to move and stack.
One thing about Eastern Utility Pole: They grow fast. When I cut one down, it seems like no time at all before another has grown up in it's place.

I think they may be endangered or protected here in Ohio. I cut one down once and damned near went to jail for it..................

Next time, try using a car to harvest them. Cops seem a bit more sympathetic to that sort of thing.
Not your car, of course.

Snow....Hate the stuff! Winter, you can have it. I slipped and fell so hard last December I fractured seven ribs and 5 discs in my already destroyed back. Still seeing doctors over it.... :x
