Well if you read my post about my new pipe rack, then you already know that i got an old cob with my rack. now i wouldnt buy a estate cob, but it came with my pipe rack so i figured id give it a try.so last night i filled it up with some half and half and it rewarded me with a wonderful 30 minute smoke.then this morning i put a little prince albert in it and it was wonderful as well.i definitely have to get myself a new cob. oh and for those wondering, its an old MM cob. after my smoke i checked the mail and the tin of MacBaron 7 Seas Gold i got off ebay came in today! so that will be a nice smoke for this evening after work, or tomorrow depending on how late i get out. oh for those who havent seen the other pictures of the cob i posted heres another

Uber, you did good with that cob. That style is going to date back from the late 1960's to the early 1980's. I have a 1974 MM catalog and that thick shank is what they looked like at that point.

I cant help you much on new cobs, but I dont think you can go wrong on any of those you are looking at.

Someday I'll have to give a cob a try. No place around here to get one; the B & M's have briar and meerschaum, but only rinkydink cobs that are not meant for more than a sample.
I like the Diplomat shape. I can't imaging packing and lighting the MacArthur... 8O

i would smoke the MacArthur, but only indoors, out of sight of those who might point and laugh...the Diplomat however I would happily smoke on the street, it's a classic shape and style

I'd like to get a MacArthur, but only once my technique of keeping the bowl lit becomes a bit better, as I can imagine relights towards the bottom of the bowl being difficult, or requiring a candle lighter. Do think it might be amusing walking down the street smoking one.

the macarthur is not as big as it seems.im told the bowl dosent go all the way donw the cob, and that you could chop off part off the bottom if you like.though im sure it has a nice big bowl
