To add to what Rothnh said, that's why 05venturer suggested butter nut burley has burley which helps calm the smoke down, and adds to the flavor very well. Also the two suggestions Rothnh made are great, since you get three tins for the price of two, I would buy two dunhill flakes and she the second one for at least 3 months, the flavor will enhance greatly in that time. Or choose another blend is never had a blend from Dunhill that wasn't enjoyable.

Pylorns, I wouldn't really agree that higher prices equal better quality leaf, although I have never tried thepipeguys so I wouldn't know about there quality. I do know MClelland has some of the best Virginias in the world and there price is average. For a beginner trying to find what genre of tobacco they want to explore first, I wouldn't suggest anything hard to get or expensive.

@wnghanglow Not suggesting anything hard to get. The greenhorn has the following - which you can get at pipes and cigars with following prices:

Cornell & Diehl: Autumn Evening 8.96 8oz

Peterson: De Luxe Mixture 50g tin 9.00

Samuel Gawith: Grousemoor 11.00
Total of $29.
The price for the same package at pipeguys is $27.50 so save a couple bucks...
My point was that pipeguys are very selective in the pipes they sell and tobacco they sell ie they don't appear to be like smokingpipes.com or pipesandcigars.com where you have huge selections. And I'm merely suggesting it as an option. Vs. a 2oz sample of bulk; which I mentioned other bulk brands....

Pylorns that makes sense when you explain it that way, when you said expensive I thought penzance, your suggestions were actually quite reasonable.

I always encourage my girl to beat me, maybe I should order a massive amount of tobaccos and refuse to buy her anything for a year... I can just say "I don't wanna cut into my piping money," maybe that'll work for a beating or two :)
Alrighty, now for the serious part, you have just hit the number 1 forum for pipesmokers, I hope you have a long and rewarding adventure with us.

Welcome aboard and hats off to East Tennessee!
If you're ever near Murfreesboro, you can sample one of the finest aromatics made anywhere (IMHO): Battleground, available at the Humidor. Further, if you're ever near Gatlinburg, make sure to stop in at the Gatlin-Burlier for some Cade's Cove Cavendish or Mountain Mall Mix.

Another great site is 4noggins, they ship super fast and they have great custom blends such as hobbits weed and bald headed teacher, they are a bit pricier though.
FYI Hobbits Weed is only available from Tewskbury AFAIK.
But I am wondering where to find Butter But Burley

Welcome to the forums.
You've landed at one of the kindest but most opinionated pipe/tobacco sites out there. You've lurked or hovered here long enough to know that, this joint holds veterans in high regard, you won't be flamed for the standard newbie remarks, beliefs & habits and that the only dumb question around here is the one never asked.
Don't be shy sending Personal Messages or asking questions of the posters here. We're all quasi-experts and happy to share. And we're also willing to learn. (I've been messing around with pipes for over forty years and still pick up something new weekly.)
I'm glad you're here.

Nice introductory video. Welcome to the forums.

If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. You can find some great answers here.

There are a lot of kindred souls on this site and while they don't bite they might nibble a bit.

Welcome KC from Canada. I spent almost a decade in the Canadian Army with 6 of those years as a Canadian Paratrooper. Thank you for your service and feel free to ask any questions you have. There are no dumb ones here and as I have learned sometimes they can save you a lot of tongue distress! Met lots of guys from east Tennesee that crossed trained with us from the 82nd and they were all damb good soldiers.

I appreciate your service as well sir. I was stationed in Ft. Lewis, WA for a long time and did some training with some RCMP's. Honestly, their beards were tougher than some of our green horns!
