After a brief 4 day hiatus this new Roma arrived in the mail. The boxy one I wanted sold out the day I went to buy it, so I opted for this rotated box (diamond) one. I was hesitant on Savinelli because I prefer a filter and the 6mm charcoals seem to be a bit harder to find. I may try out their balsa when stock is available. Of course, I don't know if it's possible yet to buy just a pipe and no new tobacco, so I picked up some limited stock plus my first plugs to try.

Gotta love those WARNINGS.

That shape is a Bulldog. Nice looking pipe...enjoy.

It is part of the Savinelli Roma series, I'm not sure if Roma is also a pipe shape but that would be confusing, if it is a non-Roma-shaped Roma bulldog...

My fist pipe was the easiest to buy. Now I have a great deal of trouble choosing one...

Of course you can buy a pipe or tobacco without the other. That looks like a good kit. The Virginia and Burley will give you a good idea about those tobaccos either of which are each often used for the base leaf for most other blends. It's a good place to start.

This is what you have/purchased.

Brand: Savinelli
Model: Roma
Shape: Bulldog
I understand. I guess it's standard to call a pipe by its shape rather than line, my apologies. I feel like you are telling me I said something wrong but I didn't seem to say anything that is not true, or it is going over my head.

I had just meant "boxy" as in the stem is a literal square, just like the other Roma I wanted. Not all bulldogs I can see here have boxy/square stems.

It looks like the pipe I had intended to buy before it sold was a Roma "panel", as shown on the right. Even though my pipe is a bulldog, the shapes are very similar. The panel has no slight bulge on the bowl and the "boxy" stem is rotated 45 degrees.

No apology needed. Just a mix up in comments...it happens. We're all good.
It is a nice pipe. I hope it's a good smoker for you.

I don't know what to smoke in it, I think I am restricting this pipe to no aromatics...

I'm not really familiar with carbon cakes yet. Would you say a new pipe has a negative impact on the flavor of tobaccos? If so, I probably won't smoke those 3 year aged tins in this new Savinelli. That was a decent deal from TobaccoPipes... per tobacco was no more than a newly tinned Escudo and I don't have to wait 3 years. A nice, "cheat" introduction to effects of cellaring.

You have a Bulldog (diamond shank) with saddle stem

A pipe with a similar shaped bowl but with a round shank is called a Rhodesian

The one you missed out on is a square-shanked panelled billiard with a saddle stem.

Nice Bulldog. Enjoy

The stems caught my eye, not sure why. I guess they just stand out since most are round/oval. Reminded me of a classy pirate, or maybe someone in the Navy long ago… a bit aggressive I think, but sleek.

North Georgia mountains.
Nice haul! You've got some tasty blends there. I'm a big fan of the Burkey & VA flake and Kentucky Plug. Ive been meaning to try Warhorse green because I like the red so much, I'm very curious how the two compare.
And congratulations on the pipe. It's a great looking piece that I'll bet smokes as good as it looks.
