As someone who is also a cigar smoker and new to pipes I don't have enough time with pipes to help on that front but as for the leaf I suggest perfect plug,Irish flake and old dublin if you have to have Peterson's.Also I do have a 2016 Peterson Christmas pipe 105 that smokes pretty good.

Back.
I've received my order a few days ago, and I really like the pipe. From the tobacco blends I've only tried Peterson Summertime 2018 which is pretty week. It smells awesome, but the taste is not so aromatic, more straight tobacco. My Borkum Riff Ruby is much more aromatic. Anyway, maybe it will develop in the future, or my pipe will evolve :)
I will come back soon with a list of maintenance questions regarding my pipe.

If you are looking for blends to taste the way the smell, i will highly recommend buying some C&D Autumn Evening, if you like maple. Many aromatic blends do not taste the way they smell. The one i recommended is one of the few i can think of off the top of my head. Im sure more aromatic smokers here will point you in a better direction.

So here are my questions regarding my pipe maintenance:
1) I've read on the Peterson web site that in order to break in a pipe (creating the cake) I need to smoke it a few times with only quarter full, then a few times half full, and only after that I should fill the chamber full with tobacco. My pipe's chamber is quite deep, so how do I properly light it when it only contains a small amount of tobacco in it?
2) How do you clean the chamber of the pipe? It needs to keep the cake, but it also smells like an ashtray, so how much cleaning should it undergo.
3) How often should one clean the pipe. Currently I wait for the pipe to cool down, then I clean the shank and stem with regular pipe cleaners.
4) How often should I clean the shank and stem with alcohol dipped cleaners?
5) How often should I change the filter? I guess after every smoke (aka during the cleaning)
... that's it for now. Maybe I'll remember more later :)

Okey, in sort of order --
1a) Couple of different philosophies on that. Some say that, some say it doesn't matter. Take you best hold on whichever works best for you.

1b) You can try a plasma jet or soft-flame lighter.
2) It's always going to smell like that unless you don't build the cake. If you really have to do it you can keep the cake about the thickness of a dime or so.
3) You're doing it right, but choice if regular, fluffy, or bristle cleaners is up to you. Personally I do just use bristle, at least two, after each bowl.
4) Up to you; if it starts smoking yucky or you get too much gunk on the cleaners should work.
5) You can change after every smoke, every couple, or whenever it looks crappy.
We'll be here, ask away! :)
