This is a thing that can be done?
A few have always just popped up naturally.
Tell me more. I'll be all over it!
I don't claim to be an authority on morels , just a consumer . 😁
Briefly , my Uncle Dean had several places around Grinnell (IA) where he would harvest a minimum of 40-50 every year .
I was 8-9 years old when we went for a family visit . We went out hunting & came upon that coveted "mother load" . There had to be 150-200 morels ! The only time I've had that blessing .

To get to the point , he always rinsed his morels in a bucket (hoping spores would be present) , then spread the rinse water in his yard

He ended up back in Linn County (still hunting) , & I mowed his lawn one year . During one mowing session , I stumbled across a morel the size of a quart canning jar !

I've done the rinse thing ever since

yeah, when you go foraging for them, use a mesh sack so the spores will spread as you move. And as dd57chevy said, you normally let them soak in water overnight. take that water and dump it by a tree base. if you have any apple or fruit trees, those are prime for dumping the water at their base. i didn't realize there were areas of the US just now entering morel season... our morel season ended almost a month ago!

They used to show up in a forest close to my Mothers house in Essex. One autumn they literally covered a clearing in the forest with the damn things. An incredible site that I have not seen since. They do taste good when added to stews.
