It's hard for me to believe, but today is the 55th anniversary of the landing of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module on the moon. That fragile craft carried astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin. You may recall Mr. Armstrong's words on that occasion.

Here's a link to a story today from the foxnews.com Website in which a 95-year-old Mr. Aldrin reflects on the mission.

May God bless him and all of the people who made that event possible. Together they truly changed the world.

At one time in the past I worked extensively with an engineer from Raytheon who was instrumental in designing and building the guidance platform for the Lunar Lander.

Years later, during a family vacation, this man took his family to The National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. During their visit they came upon a large display of artifacts from the Apollo 11 mission. As they wandered in wonder they came upon a solid-sided box with a clear Plexiglas top. As the Engineer looked down into the box, what did he see? His guidance platform!

He told me that at first-glance he was overwhelmed with a feeling of great pride. Later, after he thought about the fact that his handiwork was on display in a museum, he said that he suddenly felt very, very old!

I was 11 years old and fine tuned our brand new RCA color television's AFC to a RCH so our family could watch it.

My nation could make a twenty five inch color console that hillbillies in Bug Tussle could afford, to watch two men walk on the moon!

And I remember my Daddy saying Vanny, just think of all the others who sent them there, are watching over them, and will bring them safely back to their families.

My mother read me Michael Collin’s record, while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin reaped the glory.

Our nation, put an altar boy from the National Cathedral in the lunar orbiter to watch over the boys who walked on the moon. It gave inspiration to all of us deacons in the smaller Christian Churches, you know?

When I hear somebody claim Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong were frauds I want to fight, but I’m too old.:)

That guy seems horrible, in that situation I would refuse to do whatever he was demanding. I don't particularly need that first moon landing to be real or fake, but I certainly would not let that clip influence the decision!

At age 72 (he’s 95 now) Buzz Aldrin punched that idiot out.

Every argument the moon landing is a hoax conspiracy peddlers make has been patiently and easily debunked.

And if you had, with your mother and father watch it happen, not one time but six times, and one aborted mission where we all held our breath they’d get them back down, you’d not have a shadow of a doubt.

When a moon shot was going on, the world watched, we talked of nothing else, politics did not matter, we were all Americans and there wasn’t a thing we could not accomplish.

We need that unity back.

Yes, Nixon was President, we were losing a hundred boys a week in the Vietnam War, there was plenty of bad stuff going on.

But my nation put a dozen men on the moon and got them all safely home again, using captured German rocket scientists, just because—-they could.
