First Home Grown Fig In 6 Years.

Coll de Dama Rimada. Used to have over 100 fig trees. All grown in containers. I ended up killing them all while I was going through health issues. Last year, I got 7 trees. I left them to tough it out and 4 survived. I knocked out all the figs for better growth and left this one on the tree. Definitely has potential. Good raspberry taste. Can't wait till next year.

Love figs, I have 3 trees only one is a good producer, wife cans them for me useing artificial sweetener, used to know a man who made fig wine, good buzz, I Garronte!

Raspberry taste, wow! Mine all have a honey-like taste. I just use them to make a fig wine for the holidays, and even that has a mead flavor.

I've never eaten a fresh fig, only the dried ones.

I tried growing a fig and made the dumb decision to plant it in my yard and here in Florida we have root knot nematodes which killed it. I love figs and would love to grow some but I'm horrible with with keeping up with potted plants. Wish they had a variety that wasn't as susceptible to nematodes. I really like the different Col de Dam varieties. Yours looks tasty!

I once had a fresh fig from the tree while vacationing in Greece, it was delicious.
I can't help but smile whenever I hear or read the word "fig", because of Chrysippus of the stoic school and the donkey that got hooked on a trees figs. Apparently Chrysippus was heard to say "now give him some wine to wash down the figs", as he laughed himself to death. I can relate!

On my grandfather's farm, we used to have fig throwing wars. The goats would follow our trail to eat the beautiful figs off the ground. It is one of the most nutritious fruits. Here in Spain they make fig bread, which is something like a dough of dried figs, or a block of dried figs.

Most anything can be grown in containers. Mango anyone? problem is, the person doing the growing will have to provide everything to the plant. Weather is biggest issue. NC is warm enough I just move the container to my garage during winter. But I could plant them outdoor also. Minimum protection is needed.

We had a fig tree marking the corners of our ancestral vineyard. Brown Turkey and Missions, if I recollect correctly.
Figs are excellent on pizza and fig syrup far tastier than that artificial maple stuff on pancakes.

Where we live now was at one time one of the largest fig plantations in California that was subdivided in the 1950s. I get volunteer trees springing up all the time.

Here in Brazil it's a big tradition to mix fig levaes in tobacco, tastes delicious.



It's those green bits, in this case mixed with Virginias. The milky flavor of fig leaves makes it a great pair.

I've got 7 fig "trees", really more like bushes. 5 of them are too close to shade on my north side though and haven't really given much fruit to me. But 2 are in good sun facing south and I get a plethora every year. And every winter they die back and look completely gone, but re-grow bigger than before every season.
