Nice restoration! Coming from your dad, it's a nice piece of Alaskana as well.
Can I recommend my technique of keeping the better half at bay?
Similar to your pipe "problem" I have a gun problem. I used to get eyerolls (and sometimes worse) when new guns showed up in my man cave. These eyerolls were usually accompanied by questions of "how much did THAT one cost?"
What I did was acquire a somewhat large selection of "guns" from a few well placed estate opportunities. Now, these weren't particularly nice guns... mostly just generic inexpensive bolt and lever action hunting rifles mostly in rough shape. Now, the woman knows that I have a "bunch of rifles that I got cheap." Bit by bit, one by one, these cheap rifles get replaced by the likes of a Kimber Montana, a custom 35 Whelen, a Sharps (replica), etc. All the woman knows is that I'm playing with my guns (as I carry one out one day, and bring in another later on), and the total number stays the same.
If she's not too keen on what specific pipes you have, perhaps a large "one time" buy of cheap estates could eventually turn into a nice collection of artisan and/or high end pipes.
