I def burned the wood bad not just the wax. I took a few hours today and restored it back to where it was. Here's some close up shots of the fills etc. for those who want to see it: http://imgur.com/a/vYNDY

Get yourself an affordable buffer from a hardware store. Don´t pick it too small, you want at least wheels with a 6 inch diameter. You will need one cotton wheel and one flannel wheel (a very soft one) for the Carnauba wax.

I use a medium to fine grit polishing wax (abbrasive) on the cotton and genuine Carnauba wax for this finish on the flannel. The Carnauba wax prevents the stem from going green again and protects the stummel after staining and polishing.

I wouldn´t use mineral oils or shoe polish on my pipes because this stuff smells and burns nasty. I understand that it works fine for a lot of guys but I stick with wood stain.
Be careful with that buffer, it easily rips the pipe off your hands and sends it flying through your workshop (ask me how I know). 8O
Good luck!
Frank
