Picked up a nice Shalom pipe on ebay. I have never really worked on a rusticated pipe, so best to start with one that was only $13.00.
These were the original images. Sorry I didn’t take any when I got it! I just jumped in.
My thought was to clean up stem, ream, salt alcohol soak! Strip, stain, wax and buff. This was the nastiest pipe I’ve worked on yet (noob I’ve only restored 4 or so). My real struggle was what I found underneath the black stain and grime. Big fills and dents. Soi sanded a bit then did saddle brown stain! Wipe down with alcohol then dark brown, then very light sanding to get the high points almost bare, and highlighted.
I’m not so sure I love the results. Feedback welcome... (besides take better pictures) do I strip the Halcyon II and try to go back to all black?
Haven’t smoked it yet. Letting it completely dry out a few days.
I will document a bit better next time.
