Lol yeah Booker, imagine your life on disability if it was just you. No work, no family, only a vast ocean of time to fill while all the while lacking any real purpose. Count yourself luck to have a reason to get out of bed everyday. I'm clinging to my hobbies like a guy who can't swim clings to a life jacket after falling overboard ;)

Good move, N8! Glad to see such a dynamic move on your part. Now you can put that insomnia to good use..

and...don't forget that one of your hobbies comes with a built in family. :puffy:

Good news all around. Last place I sold, 20 acres, was in a dark sky area and the buyer designed satellites and was way into space photography. Said he was going to turn it onto a telescope farm as he was tired of renting two slots in a New Mexico facility that he used remotly. Good for you.

I'm looking forward to the time when you sit down at the scope, dial in a quadrant or what ever, lean into the eyepiece and go "Damn!"
Will you name the new comet after a blend, a pipe, or will it be "Comet Nate"?
If you are looking for something to give you more focus or purpose I'd suggest a book in the fairly near future. You write well so keep great notes and pics. Find an "editor" of sorts and write. It could be a "how to" or simply your experiences.
There are a lot of unwritten, unpublished stories out there. I think you have a couple in your life. Write! Writing a book isn't toil if you are enjoying yourself and have a purpose. Write!
Edit: Don't write to publish. Write to share and inform. I've no idea of your disability, don't care to know. You are coping and that is all that really matters. You can write, you seem personable and you have experiences to share. Write!

Congrats. I couldn't live in a small place surrounded by people. I moved to the country just to get more living space and to maximize the distance between myself and others. All of which is to say, I am happy for you.

At the last moment I had a change of heart. The house shown above was lovely, but was too far out of town and not in a great location. I picked a different one and signed a contract so this is it!! I'm so excited!! The neighborhood is awesome!! I always wanted a detached garage. This is a wonderful home! Also with a bad back I wanted single level. Can't wait, but will be moving on Sept 3rd :)

Wow, I like the look of your new place. I am not much of a handy-man, and an old house usually needs some fixing, while (typically) a newer house does not. So I like newer homes.
And the porch looks like a fantastic place for a smoke. I hope this works out well for you.

Thanks guys! I'm STOKED!! A workshop/observatory in the garage and a swing on the front porch. For the first time in a very long time I shall be a happy man!

Sweet! Congrats N8. I am doing just the opposite. Whereas I have never owned a home, and always rented, this year I have made it a priority to finally own home. Downsizing from a 3br rental house to a tiny home.
I have already gotten rid of most of my fluff, including a large 8-seat kitchen table, 4-poster mahogany queen bed, 1960 cabinet record player, 2 couches, rocking chair, 2 large antique dressers, and a large deep freeze, among other misc furniture.
I will be purchasing a 8ft wide x 20-24ft flatbed and building my own tiny home. I already have my plans drawn up, and now I simply wait for the initial purchase.

Very cool Griffin!! I love those shows, Tiny Nation and Tiny Homes! I love the concept, but yes we're traveling in opposit directions. My new status as "disabled" has opened my schedule up and begged for hobbies to fill the VAST amount of free time I'm now faced with. Hobbies I've found require "Stuff" and stuff required space. Otherwise I'd've remained in my 700sqft loft. its one thing when you're living a normal life, but 24/7/365 home alone in a cramped space... The walls close in fast. Had life unfolded this way, I'd be designing my own portable tiny home. Be sure to start a thread here once you begin! I love watching stuff like this progress!

Here's another photo I took of my telescope, but notice the amount of clutter in the background, hence the need for more space :(

I'll definitely have progression pictures and videos. I may even post them on my youtube acct (which currently has 0 videos). You may be surprised with how much storage space my little home will offer. However, it certainly will not hold your hobbies.
Kudos on the new place and your new-found free time. Many here are certainly jealous.

Congrats on the new place Nate. Does the blonde on the porch come with the house? :nana:
That is great that you have the detached garage. You could easily have a skylight which opens or some other contraption installed so the telescope gets clear views. Hope you don't get too much light pollution being in a development.
Now on to the FUN part of packing stuff. Boy do I love me some packing, moving, and unpacking.
