I have not tried the rice yet. The thing about stones is the air space is beneficial. Rice would be tighter…but I will try it soon and report back.

I really don’t perceive a difference between my broken clay pot pieces and meer. There probably is a difference but I don’t perceive it.

I use Sav balsa filters in my cobs, Sav cartridges (6 /9 mm) in my pipes, Brig maple inserts in my Brig. My sampling pipe, a Nording Shorty uses their keystones. All provide some relief from moisture, none is better or worse than the other. I haven't really noticed any alteration in flavour or nicotine and tongue bite is usually my own fault for smoking too fast and hot.

I have several unfiltered pipes that I enjoy just as much. I think it's a fairly thick fence. easy to sit on. YMMV.
