To be fair, alot of us smoke pretty smooth stuff around here. If you smoked alot of heavy goopy aromatics, then maybe you'd prefer filters. Everyone once in a while, I'll smoke something like Sutliff's Molto Dulce but I have to cut 50/50 with Prince Albert to make it palatable for me. I still don't think I could make Paladin or #79 workable but a filter would help.
I don't know what the OP smokes but there could be a valid reason for the filters.

There is no relationship between the grade of a pipe and the fact, if it takes filters, or not. There are Dunhills with a 9mm filter chamber, and S.Bang produced quite a percentage of 9mm pipes for the German market. All Savinellis, including high grade Autographs, from the best briar, I have ever seen, have filter chambers.

I have only used a filter a couple of times and that was in a Brigham pipe.

I prefer to taste the tobacco.
