As I posted in the other Filter thread, I stumbled upon the joy of filtered pipe smoking by accident.
It may be necessary to describe WHY I pipe smoke at all, especially since I just spent a day shoveling clay onto the corpse of a woman who chain-smoked Benson & Hedges for most of her life and died of brain cancer while I sat by her side. (
look up Green Burial if you’re curious about the process)
I pipe smoke for the same reason I sip Islay scotch, Sonoran bacanora, Guatemalan rhum, and Kyushu shochu. I pipe smoke for the same reason I explore both nihoncha and fine Chinese tea. I pipe smoke for the reason I love being in the piano factory or the vintage car workshop. I pipe smoke for the same reason I am a cook and for the same reason that I spend days in the forest stalking other animals.
Aroma ,
flavor ,
life .
I do not pipe smoke for bravado nor for whining about complexity nor whining about costs. I do not pipe smoke to look down my nose at others nor identify myself as a douchebag. Nope.
Those would not be goals.
Just as I am thrilled to have a modified hand brake for drifting the primitive roads in northern Arizona, also thrilled to have found a part of pipe smoking that assists in the pleasure, the aroma, the flavor, and the cleanliness of the session. I’m stoked to hear how using a filter is delivering more nuance of flavor in your sessions.
