Felt like I should have been smoking in the closet

In the end, all it really comes down to is self-confidence.

I'm 33, look 20ish and smoke a churchwarden in my car (STi) occasionally. When people start to stare I just shake my head because they don't know what they are missing. I've even converted some friends just because the tobacco quality is so much better than their cigars at a better price.

Maybe it's a difference between large cities and small towns? I live way out in the woods so most of my pipe smoking is on the privacy of my own porch and the wild turkeys, deer, foxes and the odd cougar have never taken much notice. But when I make my weekly trip to a small town nearby (50 miles away) the only looks I get are looks of mild to moderate interest. And the only comments I've had are two on how nice the smoke smells and one on how distinguished I looked smoking my pipe.

When people get offended by me or decide to make me the subject of a joke I just chuckle with them an go back to my day. They have no effect on my pipe or tobacco and my pipe and tobacco make me happy = )

Since I took up the pipe the other month, I've smoked with one other guy my age (both 21) and our consensus was that pipes were more enjoyable. We relaxed, the aromatic smell filled the room like fresh bread. Whenever I've smoked, the mainstream as always give me strange looks. The odd and the interesting ask questions or take a good whiff of what I'm smoking.

Any time I've smoked on the street I get quizzical looks from men and winsome looks from the women. Guess which looks I'm more impressed with? :twisted:

Women Ive been around love the smell of the pipe!Ive had some say,it reminds me of my Dad,or grandfather.I then take off with one of the biggest,far fetched,pick up lines anyone has ever thought up.Sometomes it works,sometimes it doesnt,LOL

^ Too true. The beard and the pipe and the long hair seem to be a winning combination. Defenitely not complaining.
