If the FDA brought in a nicotine level law… how would that affect pipe tobacco?

The proposed new rule would not ban cigarettes or any other tobacco products. The FDA is proposing to cap the nicotine level at 0.7 milligrams per gram of tobacco in cigarettes and certain other combusted tobacco products, which is significantly lower than the average concentration in these products on the market today.
Been discussed for a bit.

If ya ask me the nicotine in actual tobacco products isn't a problem, what they should really be cracking down on are those dang nicotine pouches all the young people seem to like these days. Being a pack a day cigarette smoker for most of my life and someone who smokes 1792 Flake as my favorite everyday pipe blend I thought I had a pretty high nicotine tolerance, so I decided to try a 6mg ZYN pouch a couple weeks ago and just about had a heart attack!

I could only keep that thing in for about 2 minutes before I was hiccuping, sweating, and feeling nauseous and delirious from WAY too much nicotine; and it burned the heck out of my gums for about a week afterwards too. That was just an absolutely insane amount of nicotine in that thing, and if that's the type of nicotine dose that younger folks are getting hooked on these days then I predict that we're going to be seeing a lot of young people with cardiac problems and high blood pressure in the not too distant future. Real tobacco could never come even close to that kind of mega nicotine dose, and I seriously doubt it's safety.

You sure it was 6? And only 1 pouch? I usually gotta put 2 in at the same time. Not saying or wrong or attacking you at all . Maybe you developed a nicotine sensitivey?

Yeah, it was definitely the 6mg one since that's the strongest pouch ZYN makes. I don't think I have a nicotine sensitivity either, since I'm (unfortunately) still a pack a day cigarette smoker and have been for the past 26 years, and I smoke a lot of dark strong Gawith ropes and flakes like Brown Bogie and 1792 as cigarette replacements when I have time to sit down and have a pipe.

I feel like I'm pretty intimately familiar with Vitamin N, but holy cow did that 6mg ZYN pouch ever kick my butt! I have a few 12mg cans of White Fox pouches in the fridge that I ordered online before I picked up the 6mg ZYN can locally, but ever since I tried the ZYN (and subsequently threw the rest of the can in the trash) I've been too scared to try the White Fox pouches! 😅

I think ON makes a 2, 4, and 8mg pouch. I used to smoke a pack a day too until about 5 months or so ago. I used the pouches to get off em. Now I only use the pouches when I'm at work, four in a 12 hour night.

Dunno if it's your intentions to quit the cigs completely, but best of luck with it. It's a hard habit to put down.

Oh wow! Yeah I'd be nervous to try them too
