Personally, while I appreciate pure VAs for what they are, I find them too boring, so I'm more of a VA based blend lover.
My top three of all time are in each category (in order)
Pure Virginia:
1) SG Best Brown Flake

2) SG Full Virginia Flake

3) McClelland Christmas Cheer
Va/Pers:
1) Esoterica Durbar shares #1 spot with Solani 633 Flake

2) Escudo (A&C Peterson Original)

3) SG St. James Flake
VA-Based but not pure Va:
1) Rattray's Marlin Flake (Va/Per/Bur/Cav)

2) Orlik Golden Sliced

3) Erinmore Flake

SG FVF, McClelland 5100, Dunhill Flake. Of the three FVF is probably my favorite, but they're all excellent VA's.

I don't smoke a lot of straight VAs, but the ones I enjoy the most are Blackwoods Flake, Briar Fox, Opening Night and, sometimes, FVF (although I do feel it is an overrated product, it is enjoyable when the stars are right). Oh, and I almost forgot Christmas Cheer. Depending on the vintage, it can be a first-rate smoke.

FVF is a fickle mistress, but when its good, it is great. I haven't had anything better...
Escudo is a more consistent performer and it vies for my overall favourite. (It gets the perique blend nod as well)
There are a lot of other amazing VA blends out there. I personally think Virginias are the best type of tobacco so I am biased, but there are plenty of great blends to be had that showcase premium Virginia leaf processed in many different ways.

Solani 633 is amazing stuff. But it's in a 3-way tie for me with Escudo and Gawith Hoggarth's Best Brown #2 (a touch of burley in that one).

I'm convinced this is some sort of trick question. It's like asking a 4 year old who he loves more his mom or his dad. Honestly I cant smoke enough to figure out what I like the most. I have 3 years worth of TAD sitting around in mason jars. Almost all of it is VAs or VaPers. Flake based VAs are my nemesis. I have a quintessential memory of every night. I could give you a picture of my best flake pipe but I couldn't tell you what my favorite tobacco is. I'm in Virginia whore. Sooner or later I'll get an A+ for effort.

rhogg, I'm with you. I'm still searching for my favorite. I have alot of PS Va.7 long cut and like it just how it is. I don't think I will ever find "the" one. I'll just enjoy the journey.

Definitely Rattray's Marlin Flake - I did not realize that it also contained Black Cavendish and Perique until I read it in someone's post here.

Samuel Gawith Best Brown Flake - also very good; I have a tin from summer '09 I am waiting to open this summer
