favorite pipe makers?

i currently have a $30 benton pipe and i was thinkng and investing in a nice peterson pip, more specificly http://store.pipesandcigars.com/pestsypi.html (bottom right one). does anyone know of any other good makers?

I have no idea what the Star System is, but I have a regular system pipe from Peterson (the 302), and that one smokes like a dream. It needs to be cleaned more often than my no-system pipes, but it doesn't really bother me. I like the little rituals, you know
I don't think you'll go wrong with any Peterson. Another brand worth checking out is Stanwell. They're both in the same price range (more or less), and both make excellent puffers. I personally prefer Stanwell as I find their shapes nicer.

I'm with arko on this one. There are thousands of pipe makers that I admire, but so many of them are out of my reach price range wise. As far as the under $100.00 pipe makers, I would have to go with Stanwell and Peterson. Both make great pipes for the money. Savinelli is another favourite in the under $100.00 pipe world, but every Savinelli I have had seems to be problematic in one way or an other. Between Stanwell and Peterson, I too will always choose Stanwell just because I favour their aesthetic.

I am a fan of Nording. They have quite a few under the 100 dollar mark in either freehand or traditional. There freehands smoke like a dream, well at least the 2 I have do.

The Star series has just been re-introduced. I don't know about them but the older pipes from the 1970's were a slight up-grade from the System Standard's but not the equal of the Premier series. I suspect this new release is simlply a red stain on the System Standard.

I have several favorite makers that top the $100 mark.

But, I have two that come in right at it...

They would be Johs, and Maggiore (Setfano seconds).

I would check with all of the site sponsors. They all have a fine selection of pipes and if one doesn't usally another does.

So many choices so little time and money. I didn't realize the agony you all go through on a day to day basis. Is it posible to be addicted in just 2 weeks?

yes lol. i become addicted before even taking my first puff. the that art of the pipe and the routine and care that goes into smoking a pipe can be very soothing / addicting to me. i cant smoke in my dorm room but i find myself going to my stash a just smelling the tobaccos

I'm with ohin on the stanwell, I have 3 and the 2 I got new were perfect right out of the box, smoking pipes gives you A large picture of the actual pipe you are buying

Peterson all the way for me I own three so far and everyone of em are fantastic smokers.
