Stanwell, without a doubt. Although... I am starting to appreciate higher-end Savinellis too.

I'm not sure I can have a favorite right now. I'm still experimenting with pipes as I get them or as they come into my permanent collection. I've really enjoyed the 2-3 Savinellis I've had. Then there's my Peterson African meerschaum, Rinaldo, and my Stanwell.
The Rinaldo and the Stanwell are the only two pipes I've been able to pack perfectly and smoke to complete ash without getting a bad taste. Also, they lasted the longest without relights.

My favorites are Costello, Radice and Ser Jacabo in that order. I have one Costello that I received as a gift which is great because they are expensive, however, the coolest smoke that I have, out of my 16 pipes. I have Petersons also, however, their draw is a little too restricted.

I was a big Preben Holm fan in the early 70's, mainly based on style; those freehands turned the staid world of classic shapes on its ear and started a movement. A little heavy and poorly balanced, but easy on the eyes. As smokers, however, I thought they were, mieh, just OK.
I've found GBD's to be comfortable, very affordable, and consistently good smokers, but are difficult to find outside of e-Bay these days.
The only 2 Nørding's I have are excellent smokers.
I recently bought my 1st Savinelli, and I'm very impressed -- an affordable, everyman sort of pipe that smokes as well as any GBD I've ever owned. I'd put Stanwell in the same class, and for the same reasons; but like the Savinelli, I've only got one example from which to draw conclusions.
Looking forward to one day owning an Ardor, Castello, Luciano, and Cavicchi -- but that's based solely on looks.

Really? Wow. Was at my tobacconist yesterday and they had at least 15 on one of the walls. guess what they lack in tobacco selection they make up for in pipes.

With the few pipes that I own, I'd agree with Jason:

Peder Jeppensen who owns Neerup pipes

I have two of his pipes and for the money; I think they are absolutely wonderful. They are not necessarily my favorite looking pipes but the way they are constructed, feel, and smoke will guarantee another Neerup will be added to my collection in the future.
Non P-lip Petersons are a favorite also.

I'm with Ichi on the Brigham love, but I haven't had the opportunity to smoke any offerings from the majority of pipe-carvers, so that could very well change with time.

hmmm I've pondered the question some more, looked at my small collection which is all I got to draw from. I'd have to say Björn Thurmann. Out of all, I think it gives me the best smoke, feels best in my hand, I like the looks and the man himself is a really nice guy. So if I was forced, I'd go with that pipe.

Like puffintuff, I have a majority of Petersons followed closely by Savinelli. Like papipeguy however, I'm blown away by the quality of workmanship of the one Ser Jacobo I can afford to own.
