Sir Walter Raleigh tasted like cloves to me. Carter Hall was good. I haven't tried all of those. I'd like to try a pouch of Half and Half some time. It doesn't have the best room note, but it may taste good and be satisfying.

Indeed. I keep several blends containing it.....pure heaven.? Love the flavor of it.
Okay, so I had to look it up. I had no idea there was a plant. haha duh
Overview Information
Deertongue is a plant. People use the dried leaf to make medicine.

Despite serious safety concerns, people take deertongue for malaria.

In manufacturing, deertongue extracts are used to flavor tobacco, as a fragrance in cosmetics and soaps, and as a fixative in some products.

How does it work?
Deertongue contains coumarins, chemicals that may thin the blood and cause liver damage. It is not known how deertongue might work as a medicine.

Thank you. I learned something.

If you ever want to try it, C&D Crooner is the deertongue bomb of the bunch. Then you have Gentleman Caller, New Market, Engine 382, and 4Noggins Mojo.
After reading it will harm your liver, I think I'll pass. Thank you for the education. I had no idea and thought you might be talking about actual whitetail deer tongues. lol Sometimes, I think there is a bit too much air in my cranium.

I haven't tried most of these, but when I have a hankering for a codger type blend I usually reach for Cornell and Diehl Pegasus. Great stuff, and cheaper in bulk than most traditional codger blends, although to be fair, it's not available OTC at your local gas station (then again, what is anymore?)

I started pipe smoking with SWR 44+ years ago. I, like most, became a tobacco snob over the years and probably stayed away from codger blends for 40 years. Now that I am codger, I have added SWR, SWRA, CH, PA, all of the Captains, all of the Borkums, and all of the Amphoras to the cellar. When the Tobaccolypse comes I would still like to have reminders of what used to be. I like all of the Amphoras (especially the VA and Burley) and the SWR, SWRA, and the CH I occasionally have the urge to enjoy, and I do. Like, the other Duane mentioned, bulk is now usually cheaper than these blends. I enjoy the simplicity and, mostly, the nostalgia of the codger blends. BTW I voted for SWR.

I went with Sir Walter Raleigh regular, I bought some more recently and I've been enjoying it far more than I expected. It's windy as all-get-out here lately, but this has stayed a remarkably cool smoke (with a wind cap), where other things have turned into hot-bitey steam.

All your OTC blends are for the U.S market. If you had a second poll for U.K OTC blends you might get a different result. Incidentally some far sighted person remarked on the forum that there really aren't a lot of U.K OTC blends left kicking around and it was represented by Clan, Gold Block, Condor and St Bruno. I realize I have been away for a while from the U.K but surely they cannot have wiped out so many well known and beloved blends in an act of cultural vandalism?

Most OTC blends aren't strong enough for me, but I used to smoke quite a bit of Prince Albert.

When I was a kid, my dad smoked Carter Hall incessantly.
