"Old drugstore," of course, is enormously relative to both the smoker's age *&* when a blend came on the market. Where & when I started CB wasn't available as a drugstore blend, at least not where/when I was, so for me it was SWR, Amphora, & Granger (southwest GA in the late '60s).
(79 & Middleton's cherry were available, but I didn't care for them.)

I'm about to sit down with Prince Albert, Carter hall, sir Walter Raleigh, and half and half to compare and see what I think of each of them. Hopefully soon I'll get to my b&m and find some granger and walnut. I'll post my thoughts when I get done

Carter Hall, I love it. I can smoke it all day and not get tired of it. I have a smoked many a big tub of it crashthegrey and not one has gone dry on me! Nothing wrong with PA either.

My dad smoked Granger only for fifty years, age 15 to 65, with a few years off for King Edward Cigars. I still like the blend, surprised to find out it is technically an aromatic, maybe a light flavoring of anise, just guessing. I think it has changed ownership and sourcing over the years, so he might not find it similar today. I smoke it only every few years, not in rotation. It's a little harsh from time to time, but mostly pleasantly full-flavored and tobacco forward. Rough Cut Kentucky.

Back in the day, I would buy Edward G. Robinson, London Dock and Flying Dutchman. Only EGR is still in my rotation.

I would have loved to have been a pipe smoker in the 60’s and 70’s. But as for now I enjoy Carter Hall & Granger.

I'm not sure how these fit the category, but pouch blends I've enjoyed are John Bull, Erin Go Braugh, and Borkum Riff Whiskey. Not regulars but pleasant. Some have said Capt. Black Grape is much better than it sounds, and Chasing found Mixture 79 pretty good.

I say kick those drug store blends to the curb and throw some Old Joe Krantz in a cob and sip it like a fine wine.

Yup, Old Joe Krantz, the orginal, is a natural pleasure. Haven't tried the new OJK's, but they're probably pretty good too.

Looks like I'm gonna have to try some Old Joe Krantz.
Lately, I've been smoking anywhere from 2 to 4 cobs of Carter Hall / Lane Ready Rubbed / Hearth & Home Chatham Manor to every one bowl of English or Virginia in a briar. Getting a great smoke has been hit or miss lately with English blends, and to a lesser extent with Virginias, but the old codger-style burley blends are always a reliable good smoke.

PC Midtown makes a good Walnut match, Chestnut, a nice non-aro tub tobacco, now also available in a bag/pouch.
