I'm sitting on the front porch in my home state of Texas thinking about all of the great westerns that I tend to watch this time of year. (FWIW, I'm puffing on some University Flake, and I've been watching 'The Outlaw Josey Wales'.) I spend a lot of time at Christmas with my Dad, Uncle, Brother, and sold survivIng Grandpa. We watch a LOT of westerns. John Wayne is, of course, the KING. I was contemplating my favorite of his: The Cowboys. You get to see many sIdes of a wonderfully complex character and Bruce Dern does on HELL of a job as the 'bad guy'. He is downright chilling. We had a VHS copy of this when I was growIng up and we absolutely wore that tape out. What's YOUR favorite and why?

I know its cliched but I love True Grit, my grandpa is possibly the biggest john wayne fan ever, has posters and collectibles everywhere, he even got arrested because he knocked a guy out who told him john wayne was gay.....
I am also very close to my grandpa, and he has served as my de-facto father since i was borne, and this is the first one i ever saw with him...
Personally I am more of an Eastwood fan, and boy does he hate that hahaha

Actually, even though he made great westerns, my favorite John Wayne movie is "The Quiet Man". It was made in Ireland and co-starred Maureen O'Hara and Victor McLaughlin.

Never was a John Wayne fan. Those old Western movies never really appealed much to me. The only Western show I ever got big into was the Young Riders. Still watch episodes on Netflix from time to time. As for Clint Eastwood I love Gran Torino.

I like The Searchers, Rio Bravo, Red River and True Grit the most, out of the Dukes' work. My dad got me into John Wayne movies before I could walk.

Never was a John Wayne fan.
I know I'm a heretic for saying this, but I was never a John Wayne fan either. I don't know...I've tried to watch some of his films and I just can't get in to them.
Now Clint Eastwood on the other hand.... :D

Can't forget that Clint has directed a lot of excellent movies too.
Ah, I'm not really much of an old movie buff, but I can say that I've always preferred John Wayne playing a soldier over a cowboy.

Eastwood by far, but I am gonna have to check out some John Wayne movies. The Young Riders was a great show. Another good western is Barquero starring Lee Van Fleet although my main reasons for watching it was Marie Gomez.
