My wife is a HUGE lover of Christmas. A few years ago we went on a family trip to Universal Studios Orlando, right after Christmas and before New Years (that's a whole other story). Needless to say, their holiday celebration is pretty awesome. Our anniversary is a week before Christmas, so for the last three years (and this year) she and I have been taking a couples trip to UO for a long weekend. This is the playlist that is playing at our house right now, and will be until the new year! Some good ones on here, some that people dislike and some unique ones as well!

This is more my style though:

I have a whole array of Christmas favorites, everything from Phil Spector's Christmas album to Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and George Shearing's "Snowfall". One song, "Let it Snow", has a special resonance for me.

We were not officially dating yet, but I went to help the girl who's now my wife shovel snow. Being just a dumb teenager, I thought I could drive my new car through the drifts but found the hill I had to tackle already blocked by cars stuck in the snow. I parked and hiked the last mile through knee deep snow with my snow shovel over my shoulder (such is love!). Just as we were finished, a city snowplow misjudged the curve and piled a 5 foot wall of snow across the sidewalk. The driver said "sorry" and we went back to work.

She made me lunch and later, hot chocolate and when I left, she wrapped her scarf around my neck. I had the scent of her perfume with me as I hiked back only to find I had left the parking lights on and my battery was dead.

Somehow, the song makes me think of that day still, even though we just celebrated our 53rd anniversary.

Opposite to recent thread, entitle: Christmas Song Elimintaion

What are some of your favorite Christmas songs? I have a few, but one that ranks up there is The Christmas Song, aka, Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire, by Nat King Cole.

Pretty cool, or hot, story behind the song:

It was written by Bob Wells and Mel Tormé, and first recorded by the Nat King Cole Trio in June 1946.

“According to Tormé, the song was written in July 1945 during a blistering hot summer. It was in an effort to "stay cool by thinking cool". Tormé said that he saw a spiral pad on his Wells’s piano with four lines written in pencil. They started, 'Chestnuts roasting..., Jack Frost nipping..., Yuletide carols…, Folks dressed up like Eskimos’. Tormé recalled that Wells didn’t think he was writing song lyrics. He thought if he could immerse himself in winter, then he could cool off. Forty minutes later the song was written. Tormé wrote all the music and some of the lyrics..."

Great thread! I'm going to turn all these posts into a playlist for during the holidays.

I get sick to death every year of a lot of the same Christmas music, a lot of which should be put to rest...(I'm looking at you Feliz Navidad)...so I get that other thread. But there's something to be said for tradition, and the nostalgia brought on by all these old chestnuts. I was a choir boy as a kid, so I have a lot of memories of performing traditional music every year during the Christmas season and touring around the province, and also down to North Dakota, performing in a lot of different churches and community centres. It's kind of sad to say those were the best days of my life...well, times change anyway. Now I'm trying to pass on to my daughter some of the fortunate experiences I had in my youth. I love the traditional Christmas carols, Away In A Manger, It Came Upon A Midnight Clear, O Little Town Of Bethlehem, O Holy Night, etc. etc...and some of the modern classics are great compositions, like the Christmas Song, Silver Bells, and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. Anyway, here are a couple to add to that playlist.

Almost anything from this. Linus and Lucy isn’t Christmas, per se, but it’s my favorite.
