So I'm presently enjoying immensely three flakes of G.L. Pease Horizons folded and stuffed in a Nording Signature Freehand. This is a nice blend indeed. I'll be trying it again later rubbed out in a Savinelli 320, but I always fold and stuff a flake first. Now it took a few lights to get it going, but once it took off, it took off running. It's burning well, good flavor. Pretty good chance I'll be ordering more. It won't replace my old favorites, but I would have purchased it alongside those blends if they weren't discontinued.

Standard Mixture is my favorite English because it's so classic, soft, puff-ypuffy, luxurious, high quality, not heavy on Latakia. I'm in the US and London Mixture is not common here I have heard. I heard that London Mixture is similar but that it has less Latakia and more other Orientals, which makes it sound also appealing. But I never had London Mixture.

I want to thank everyone again for thier suggestions so far. With the order I just placed, I'll be receiving the G.L. Pease blends Abingdon, and Horizons, as well as Mac Baren's HH Balkan Blend. I would have ordered a few more but decided to order another pound of Sutliff Queen Anne's Revenge. It's a favorite aromatic of mine and well you know the Sutliff situation. Get it while you can. I'm sure with pay day coming up I'll place another order on some of the others mentioned.
What did you think of Abingdon? If you’ve had a chance to try it.

Honestly, the ones that smell the closest to Lucky 7 Catfish bait.

The more Latikia the better!

Spark Plug might be the most obnoxious and vile smelling I’ve found so far.

When the neighbors call the fire department it’s close!

London Mixture is discontinued I believe. It was my favourite for several years. But I only ever had some of the later years, maybe when still from Murray and Sons in 2004/2005, then from Orlik/STG I believe. They say it was “better” pre-Murray. But I still loved it.

Joburg,
I thought London Mixture was recently made by Peterson, and before then by Dunhill.
Was it also made by Murray separately? I am no expert.

Whether London Mixture was one of the Peterson’s re-issues, I do not know. But your photo with the five tins of Dunhill reminds me of the 5-packs of pipe tobacco that used to be on display in airport duty free tobacco shops. With 250 grams being a typical duty free import limit, the shrink-wrapped or cardboard carrier of 5 tins was common. But I seem to recall the pack I usually purchased contained Nightcap and Standard Mixture (instead of Elizabethan and Royal Yacht) along with London Mixture, EMP, and 965. Those were the times!IMG_1702.jpeg

I've been smoking on it in between others. Abingdon is a good blend, but it doesn't really hit that spot. Of all those mentioned that I've tried, I find I enjoy Horizons the most, especially with the flakes folded and stuffed. I detect more flavors at different times and sometimes all at once, which was something Blue Mountain/Balkan Blue was extremely good for. Yet, it still doesn't quite come close to that blend or Black House. However, I am more likely to buy more of it. Abingdon is a maybe. I'm actually 3/4 through a pipefull of it now as I wanted a clear and fresh memory of it before responding.

Most all of my favorites are discontinued or rare to find, Margate, Blackhouse, Wilderness, Legends, Our Best Blend and Exotique. As far as currently available Balkans, I like Charing Cross quite a bit.

I enjoy Wilke Surburgs Crystal Palace, LJ Peretti Tashkent/Royal, GLP Quiet Nights and Ashtons Artisan Blend. To name a few that are readily available.

Honorable mentions would be the WCC English flakes that are going away now (stock while you can) and various KBV English's that are in and out of production.

I love the sweetness in abingdon… especially in the middle of the bowl on down
