Favorite 6mm charcoal filter

are they supposed to go in a certain direction, like the Vauen 9mm filters are supposed to have the blue on the stem side?

White Elephant 9mm don't have to go in any specific way, so I assume the 6mm would be good either way as well.

Also, I just got some Dr Perl 9mm, and they've got rid of the blue cap. Now you can put them in either way, just like most other brands. However, the ones I got are substantially smaller/narrower than any other brand I've had. The only pipe they really fit in is an Irish Seconds pipe I have

Dr. Perl, and thanks for reminding me. They remove an irritating component of some perique blends. I need to stock up again.

You are correct. The new Dr Perl 9mm are usable facing either direction. No more blue end.

Be sure to review them. I wanted to go with the Dr. Perl 6mm charcoal since they have more holes on the caps than Savinelli and White Elephant, but everyone is sold out or only available in large amounts (that I found). They're also about half the price or less. I hope another shortage isn't happening...

No. Some prefer them to reduce tar and nicotine; others say it produces a drier smoke and eliminates tongue bite. It’s all preference.

I'm guessing most people don't. Some find them desirable to reduce moisture, nicotine or intensity. I like them sometimes.

I might consider it, but I don't like the idea of flavour being reduced
