For me I love a beautiful grain pipe. I honestly don’t own anything else. To me the most important part of the pipe is the stem and button, they absolutely have to be vulcanite and completely comfortable to me. Next is the draught hole I drill all my pipes out to 3/16 and if I can 13/64. I love a wide open draw.

It’s just that I have a hard time bringing myself to annie-up the money
And don't feel like you have to. I have spent a lot of money on single pipes and have been gifted many artisan pieces, but an old Weber satisfies all my smoking needs.

I don't even know what the hell that means, ha ha. I just like nice things.
There isn't anything wrong with Kaywoodies, a buddy of mine has a ton of them.
Great question: Here’s my answer. A few of my pipes present the tobacco in such a manner that the flavors of the tobacco are clearly and completely presented without any adulterated flavors being observable. That is to say, the tobacco is what I taste. The pipes run cool, smoke to the very end without any nasty change in taste, and smoke this way time after time.

I don’t know why they smoke so well, but they have always done so. I don’t do anything in terms of extra cleaning or pampering and I don’t modify how I smoke them. They are by all accounts, Magic pipes.

Yes. I agree. As Freud should have said, “Sometimes a pipe is just a pipe.“ Who knows why some are better than others? Maybe it is a type of magic that resonates outwardly at the quantum level.

Those do sound like some fantastic smokers. Magic is one thing... But, my pipes are pipegasmic. puffy

Despite living in Palm Springs, I lack any experience in understanding and appreciating how the end of a stem and it’s button feels in my mouth. ??

I used to chase grain for years. Either Birdseye or straight grain. Soon after I learned you cannot smoke grain. Now I am all about a great sand blast as they smoke just as well. and the prices are a third or more price wise.

This pic is of a Former straight grain that would sell for 2500-3000 in today's market. It didn't smoke as good as my American artisan pipes. Sorry for the crap pic.
