The bulldog/Rhodesian family is my favorite briar shape, but I'm too in love with variety to stick to those exclusively.

I prefer bulldogs and Dublins, of which I see as two opposite ends of a spectrum.
The Dublins that I like look like someone bent a long tapered funnel. A simple long cone, that was bent on the end to make the bowl. Billiards and volcanoes look contrived, like they are trying to be more than the simple tools that they are.
Whereas the bulldog is extremely on the other end of the spectrum, completely and utterly contrived. Being based on a design that would be completely easy to fabricate with those old turn of the century fraziers, using slots and pegs, they were mass produced, and in the beginning had caps to make them more like a Dublin. Men yanked these caps off because they looked too fancy, and thus the bulldog was born.

Slender straight billiards are my functional favorite. My aesthetic favorite would probably be the calabash, but they are far to unweildy for the active piper.

I like a wide variety of shapes and sizes. It's easier to list the shapes that don't appeal, bulldog and Dublin. I only own a couple of those. While I like the look of the Dublin, it's a shape that's prone to structural failure over time because the the uneven wall thickness and thinner walls at the base of the bowl. The bulldog is just a butt ugly shape to me, one which can also be prone to structural failure where the walls get thin along the base.
I like apples and pots. I also like volcanoes, billiards of various types, acorns, and some freehands, especially weird stuff. Oh, and I like wax drips. Get over it.
Since I don't smoke only one type of tobacco, or have the desire for smokes of only one length of duration, different chamber sizes come into play.

"I think I am starting to fall in love with a shape that I don't own."
Tarheel1, in a bar one night, a lifetime ago, I did that. Woke up with some really bad smelling guys in a cell.
I started out with bent bulldogs and my pad just kept expanding to other designs. Mostly I have dogs, pots, rhodesians, canadians, billiards, churchwardens, and ..... geeze, I think I am out of control.

Tyler, that exact pipe is saved in my favorites wish list. I am hoping my Christmas bonus will allow it :puffpipe:

We all are about to be fond of a certain shape. I am a beginner of pipe smoking but i have my hobbies for 20 years and i had grown an obsesssion for one kind. Gibson for guitars, Discus for aquarium and Bluefish for fishing. I believe i am going to be obsessed about postmodern dublin shapes that danish people make. So, stick with your love, your love will tell you if you are about to find the true goal of your hobbie or not.

I'll smoke about any shape until I've tried them. For different tobacco it seems different pipes make a difference....differently :) I just can't stand a heavy bend in a pipe...pain to clean in the ones I've had.

Large bent billiards and brandy Preferably sandblasted! My favorite is below! But I basically like anything bent just like me. I personally find straight pipes to feel very unnatural to smoke and they remind me of people who speak with their teeth closed like Mr. Howell. Just my opinion so please do not get offended, life would be very boring if we all liked the same things.
