I loath Falcon Pipes! They conjure up all sorts of visions of people from 'Up North' on holiday in Blackpool wearing socks and sandals and wearing blue nylon flat caps and anoraks. Those ghastly type of human that you encounter staying at seaside boarding houses with their obese and jolly wife named 'Heather' or something who used to work in a textile mill. The off spring are usually encountered drunk at some low grade Spanish holiday resort that does 'All You Can Drink' holiday packages for a few hundred quid. It is the only pipe marketed in the UK capable of filling me with scenes of mental abject horror.
I never hated Falcon pipes that much (lol), but I think most people in this thread can see where you are coming from. Now what? If you overcame your feelings, they might just surprise you. Some girls might not be very pretty, but they have good hearts, and I think it would be unfair to reject them just because of that.

"Even though the tobacco taste is somewhat reduced because the shank is not briar,"
I fail to see how the flavour of the tobacco can be influenced by the shank not being briar. Since when did a briar shank 'increase' flavour?
I have smoked several Falcons and variants thereof but have never experienced any degradation in flavour over a 'full' briar pipe.
Am puzzled.

Jay.

I agree with you Jay, the flavor of whatever Tobacco you choose to smoke in any Pipe is absorbed in the Carbon and Briar, with the exception of a Meerschaum in which you do not want any carbon to accumulate. In my opinion the only thing that is retained in the Mortise and Shank is the unwanted remnants that is the result of smoking your Pipe, being Tars and other goop. That is where keeping these areas in a conventional Pipe clean is very important so as not to alter the flavor of your Tobacco. Just my two cents.

I have tried a Falcon pipe and if smoking an aluminum brake line with a repurposed wooden door knob for a bowl floats your boat then bully for you.

Eric, you make a valid point regarding keeping things clean to maintain full benefit from your chosen blend. I am one of those folks who after every smoke will dismantle my pipe and hit both stem and airway with pipe cleaners.
Some folks will clean the stem after every smoke yet the bowl only after several smokes. Judging by what I see come out of my airway after a single smoke then it makes perfect sense to clean it after every smoke. Any amount of build up is certain to have an adverse effect on the taste of the baccy.
As for aluminium reducing the flavour, pure codswallop
Condorlover, very good

Jay.

Simon, since I know this is your favorite Nicotine delivery system, I have procured a half dozen of these shiny Devils, and they are en route to Manhattan just now. Get your socks and sandals ready my friend, and did I mention that they just love Condor!
