I have several Falcon pipes which I have had since the sixties. They still smoke very well. I understand they are still available, and I'm thinking of buying some new ones. What are the opinions of members here about Falcon Pipes?

I had one years ago before a house fire claimed my pipes and everything I owned. I loved that pipe, it was my knock around/go to pipe. I have been considering getting another, just haven't found the one I want yet..

I am the first to admit that I am hard on pipes from my habitual clenching, in fact you might say I chew the hell out of 'em. However the speed with which I destroyed the bit and stem on my falcon was astounding. And as it gets chewed up it gets soft and very nasty feeling, unlike vulcanite which I just put holes in. If you're not a clenched I'd say not a problem, but I won't be buying another.

At first i hated Falcons, i thought they were the most awful looking pipes ever. I got my first one in July and now i've got two and looking to get another! I didn't realize they were so popular until i started looking for them on Ebay when i realized that a nice one is tough to get as cheap as i'd like. So in short, really a big fan of the Falcon i can't see parting with these ever.

The Difference between the Falcon and the Viking is that the stem on the viking can be replaced. The Falcon stem will not come out. Viking is not made anymore of-course. But, you can find them.

I love my Falcon pipes.

Nice cool smoke and I can use whatever bowl that floats my boat.

Welcome to the site Alan. As you can see there are many fans of the Falcon. I have never owned one so I cannot comment on their smoking properties. I think since you like the ones you have, you cannot go wrong getting more.

Thanks, everyone, for your opinions. I believe I will order a few new bowls - after all, I do have the stems!

I went thru a huge Falcon phase and didnt smoke anything else for a good two years or so. I've got stems going from the 60's to current production, along with bowls spanning that time frame. Excellent smoking pipes. For years, I thought they were just a gimmick but I have yet to have a bad smoke from one. Easy as heck to clean and take care of. You can order bowls from the UK, I went thru James Norman, for about 2/3rds of the cost here in the states. Heck, I even picked up a few Falcons from Eastern Europe.

One lady to look out for on eBay is Kathyc2c. She is the granddaughter of George Hunt, the fella that made Falcon what they are. She sells pipes going back from the 60s and stems they have not been made since then. Lots of stuff from the factory in Ireland as well. She has a book called Back from the Ashes which is a history of the Falcon pipe and company Hunt started. You can download it for the Kindle on Amazon for like three bucks.

To date, over 44,000,000 Falcons have been made and sold. That is some serious production.

There's a good reason for this "serious production": Falcons are very 'cost-effective' - they're quite affordable, easy to maintain, provide a cool, pleasing smoke and are widely available (at least in the U.K., the U.S. and on the Internet).

I own a couple of Falcons and a couple of vikings. I also have a similiar pipe called a Kirsten which looks alot like a Falcon but a thicker style stem. I like them, but did not know you could still buy any of them except estate or ebay. good to know they are still around.
