My opinion on Falcon's is well known and I am not going to repeat it again. That being said the old silver penny or button at the base of the pipe does create a space that results in a very cool smoke. I have written about it extensively on here over the years and I would image 'pipe pebbles' also serve a similar function.

++ Spuckler, the G and H flakes are at there best in a Falcon and they sure aint the same smoke with the dry ring in the bottom of the humidome.

Reviving this thread: Considering purchasing my first Falcon. Any negative issues with falcon pipes these days?

I go back and forth on Falcon pipes. I have 4. Sometimes I like the way they smoke, other times they just don't scratch my itch for some reason. They are easy to clean but they just don't smoke as smoothly as a briar, meer or cob most of the time for me.

Compared to a briar pipe the exact length and size, what is the weight comparison on falcons?

Seems like Falcons find their people. A few members smoke Falcons almost exclusively and have large numbers of stems and bowl. They can pack the bowls and use them through the day. Some find the bowls in general small and the metal shanks off-putting, but for those who find them perfect they never look back, and many others find an important place on their rack for a single Falcon pipe too.

Picked up a bunch of bowls around Christmas from Smoke King in the UK. They smoke just as good as the bowls I have from the 70's. The smooth Hunter bowls seem to have an issue with fills but no issues with the rusticated ones, in my experience.
There are also a lot more options with alternative bowls made of Meerschaum or Morta, not produced by Falcon. If you are looking to get a Meer bowl, I would stay away with the lined bowls Falcon has and go with a third party like IMP.

I’m a long time briar and cob smoker and recently bought a falcon. My first attempt at smoking it was a disaster - I just couldn’t get the draw right -, way too tight. I have used the frank method for years but I’m thinking this is not the right way to pack a falcon bowl? Any suggestions?

greetings everyone, after a long time! i got the emails for notifications, i forgot i was registered here!

a little update, havent smoked a pipe since i last posted (2013), right now im a huge consumer (not to condone it in any way) of marijuana, and i quit all forms of combustible tobacco use, i snort it (snuff) and i really enjoy chewing/dipping it.

that's the long story short,
nice to see you all again
P.S: i might be posting some *for sale* threads for some of my old pipes... nothing cheap though mind you! serious collectors only $$$$$

The falcon is a classic Brit smoker.
My pipe mentor in Liverpool used them exclusively. I never had one until the afternoon after his funeral when I marched into Duckworths in Colwyn Bay and got my first falcon.
When I want to think of my mentor, I load the falcon with St Bruno flake and fire it up in his honour.
To me, it is not an everyday pipe but one for special moments only.
Which is unusual, for the falcon has been the Everyman's unpretentious daily pipe for donkey's years.
