I've been considering getting a Falcon just because they're different looking. Other than supposed aluminium taste, do they smoke any differently? I'm guessing not.

I enjoy the Falcon I have. I plan to grab a few more bowls for it…and probably grab a few more stems. I’m considering selling the ring filters. I make my own and they always seem to be out everywhere. ?

It’s a good smoking pipe and a great for clinching. I’m glad I decided to pick one up.
Are the newer Falcons cut to a different proportion or threaded differently than the early versions? I have two American made Falcons and cannot use the ring filters; they close off the draw to the point of rendering the pipe unusable. I was curious about getting some new bowls, perhaps Meerschaum, but am wondering if they'll actually fit.

I have no idea on the answer to threading. Mine draws the same whether it’s in there or not. I prefer it in because it keeps tobacco debris from coming up the stem. Maybe use a different sized cleaner for the filter that allows more air flow?

I have a Falcon with a meerschaum bowl that gets used occasionally. Among the differences from a conventional pipe is that you need thin pipe cleaners and you can take it apart to clean, other than that it smokes similar to other meer pipes I own. I find that the mouthpiece is pretty small so clenching for me is a no-go unless a softy bit is installed (it's the only pipe I use a softy on.)

Back to the OP's question, I think the variety of bowls available exactly matches the popularity of Falcon among pipe smokers.

I like my Falcons. I have 3 - 1 old American made and 2 new. The bowls seem to work interchangeably but newer bowls on the old stem sit a bit higher from the center column in the humidome. Dry rings work fine in both types. I have one meer bowl in addition to the standard briar Falcon bowls. There are morta, con and olive wood ones to be found. There is a pipe maker on another forum that occasionally posts bowls that he made from stummels that didn’t work or full pipes. They tend to be small but recently was a great blast briar and some olive wood.

You're not restricted to rings. There's room in the base for filter granules of your choice.

they smoke really well. And no aluminum taste. They smoke really dry and cool. I find they're great for any blend that smokes wet and there are only too problems with them. They look kind of cheesy and the chambers are small. But they smoke down to ash and while far from my favorites they do smoke like little champs.

The Snifter bowl is fairly big and one of my favorites. I think the Hyperbole is like a stack? Plus you can find other decent size after-market bowls.
I have a big snifter and a big hyperbole and they're not quite as roomy as most of my briars. I tend to go for 1 and a half inch depth to 1.90. It's not really a problem but I think I'd smoke them more often if the chamber was more generous that is all.

Thanks. That was helpful!

honestly I say all pipe smokers should at least consider one. I think most of us might not have a new favorite pipe in one, but they're cheap, tough, and smoke great. They're kind of in between a cob and a briar in a where they sit in the rotation. I don't think it's my best pipe but I think it's got the most bang for the buck. Another great thing you can wipe out the humidome and the bowl dries really fast. So good pipes for smoking many times through out the day.

Plus aluminum doesn’t ghost and you can always swap bowls if they do have the flavor of a different blend profile.

I don’t get a metallic taste at all and after purchasing a new bantam bowl and stem, the stem seemed blocked - possibly a bad cast in either the metallic stem or the mouthpiece; it was difficult to tell using only a pipe cleaner. Anyway, I contacted Falcon directly and they sent out a new stem and a bowl, free of charge. I rate that level of customer service and now have four Falcons on active duty as a consequence.

I have seen meerschaum, meerschaum lined, olive wood and cherry wood (I think it was cherry) for sale on the internet - these weren’t official Falcon products though, apart from the meerschaum lined bowls.

An old smoker that I have recently been in contact with, won’t smoke anything but olive wood pipes these days though he does say how they burn through relatively quickly, when compared to briar, but he prefers the taste. I have seen Falcon Coolways offered in Olive wood but these don’t seem to be available everywhere. I’d like to give one a go though.

I hope you have stock in the company, because you just made a sale. ?
