For a Lark (not the cig) I put on a Breathe Right Nasal Strip today and the aros were more flavorful than I have been getting lately. I won't stake my honor on it, but will pay attn to whether I am using one or not when my bowls are lit.

Anybody mention Delayed Gratification Technique yet? I usually don't do it intentionally, but I have found that some tobaccos respond well to it when it happens.
Straight VAs mostly seem like a blank canvas to me. I like to smoke them straight, but usually find myself thinking of what I should add to them while smoking them, and wanting some Latakia afterwards. You might try some VA/Ori blends also, like Embarcadero (VA/Izmir), Drama Reserve, or #24 (VA/Drama). They might have slightly more going on for you flavor-wise.

Yeah I do it but not always intentionally. I've got a tin of #24 that I haven't opened yet.
I was hoping to find some of that oriental sweet and sour flavor in the Tudor Castle as well but I didn't find it.

I'm pretty sure that's not what balkisobrains meant by "delayed gratification technique". It usually refers to the practice of packing a pipe the day before it is to be smoked. This actually works quite well. Some of my best Motzek Strang smoking experiences have come about by letting the tobacco sit in the bowl for a day before lighting it up.

lol two different comments.
yes I know what he means and when I say not always intentionally it's because I'll pack it light it, put it down and not get back to it until later in the day or the next day.

I was thinking of DGT in terms of charring it and then letting it rest, but if you try that and it doesn't work, try what sable said and see if that helps. You could even Double it up. Let it sit a day, char it, let it sit a day, then smoke it. DDGT. Maybe that would help.

I've thought that flame had to be applied, whether just to char or to smoke part way. Makes no never mind, though. Many of my delayed smokes are several hours "delay" as I put the pipe down to go do something; sometimes it's over night. It's seldom on purpose that I will think "This will taste even better in a day or two".....
