However ... Around 230,000 acres of corn has been planted each year for grain production in Alabama over the last decade. Corn is grown as a part of crop rotation systems that include cotton and peanuts. Although corn is planted throughout most regions of Alabama, the majority of production is located in the north with six counties (Lawrence, Madison, Limestone, Jackson, Lauderdale, and Colbert) providing more than 50 percent of total corn acreage.

I thought cobs needed no absolutely breaking in and imparted no flavor whatsoever to the tobacco.....I swear I read that somewhere, if I could just remember where it was!

Cobguy, that's all in North Alabama. I'd have no idea what happens up there in the yankee parts of the state, ha ha.
As for cobs not needing to be broke in nor imparting a flavor. I'd read that too, but... I've read lots of stuff. YMMV

Cobs MOST CERTAINLY will impart flavors when they are new and must be properly broken in.
Everything from the sweet corny flavors of the bowl to the woody / burning flavors from the heel.
Starting with a Burley, especially an OTC such as CH or PA, and slow smoking the first 4 to 6 bowls

ALL the way down will work these flavors out, coat the bowl with a thin carbon layer and burn down the heel.
I even lightly scrape the heel in between the first few smokes to expose fresh wood to char.

In this process, things may not taste great. However, after about 6 bowls, your cob will be a perfect smoker.

That's pretty much how it started. The really bad thing was in the end, all they were trying to do was sell a timeshare in Boca. Kind of a letdown.
