New on this forum.First post :)

I collect pipes (used to smoke them also) and have a Eyup Sabri pipe.Looking for more information. I bought this pipe around 1990-95 in Instanbul.

No Idea how to upload photo's of pipe. It is called "The World of Poseidon". Carved in 1985 and numbered 147.

Any help will be welcome.

Many Thanks

David

I don't know a lot, but this is what I do know: Eyup Sabri was one of the earliest Turkish master-carvers to begin signing his pipes. Bekler came first, in 1974, followed by Bekler's nephew, Kural and Ismail Ozel, who signed as "The Artist." I've seen quite a few of Sabri's carvings, though never in person; they were nearly always in large, rectangular cases, and often came with buffalo horn stems, or plastic in imitation of horn. Some came with matching horn or plastic tampers. I've rarely seen anything but large, ornate limited edition pipes, and they usually have, if not the most realistic carving, certainly a vast amount of effort and detail.
I'd say you bought well, and I'd love to see some photos. Imgur is a good way to post them.
