I know a little bit about cobs and would recommend you order the grab bag. Cobs are great pipes and are

very forgiving. Smoke them over and over with little rest time. As far as break in is concerned, none is

really needed. If you get one that has a bit of over-run lacquer inside the bowl, I'd scrape it out with a knife

because it will give a bad taste until it's burned out. A Cob is really not a Meerschaum, it's just kind of

a tongue-in-cheek name, and fits well because it absorbs like one.

Topd I don't know how I missed this thread. You did an amazing job coloring your meer. I assume you used yellow beeswax not white?

Great thread. I recently procured a " Sultan " fig. meer, and this thing has darkened like crazy with every smoke, putting beeswax on it with every smoke. I also picked up an old Stehr meer that is already very dark from years of previous smoke. Great pipes and fun to see them darken. Thanx for all the tips. :wink:

Yes photoman... I used regular bees wax, couldn't find any refined (purified, or what ever you call it) wax

when I wanted to start this.... So just went for it.
